Instigating, developing and delivering the asset transfer and conversion of a long-disused C14th building on York’s historic City Walls.
From feasibility study through to setting up a Community Interest Company, obtaining Planning and Scheduled Monument Consent, 30-year lease, funding and design. The building opened for business in February 2018 and is now a popular facility for a range of community and businesses users. The Red Tower was awarded 2018 York Design Award in recognition of its outstanding design and community benefit. Client: Red Tower York CIC
“Imelda was instrumental in leading the transformation of the historic Red Tower in York into community ownership. Imelda worked closely with national charity Locality and their DCLG national asset transfer programme. Imelda successfully mobilised the local community to negotiate with the council, set up a new organisation and take the building into long term community ownership which led to successful capital fundraising and restoration of the building. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Imelda and Blue Fish to other people seeking to benefit from her significant experience, skills and energy for future community projects”.
