The company is a member of the British Urban Regeneration Association and the BURA Seaside Network and has a strong focus on sustainable renewal solutions, and an incisive understanding of community needs. This projects showcase demonstrates the work of BlueFish in the three different areas of rural, coastal and urban regeneration.
BlueFish Regeneration Limited has carried out diverse rural regeneration projects including a regeneration delivery plan for Copeland Borough Council in West Cumbria. The plan created a prioritised programme of regeneration projects in an area of deprivation caused by the closure of mines in the 1970s and ´80s. It also proposed solutions for tackling the complex and deep-seated problems normally associated with urban areas, but set within isolated rural locations. The regeneration delivery plan created by BlueFish was adopted by the client and is now being taken forward to implementation stage. BlueFish has also recently completed a study "Camping in Comfort" for the North York Moors National Park Authority looking at creating a network of environmentally friendly eco-huts or "skypods" along the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way national trails. Now at implementation stage, the network is set to be the first of its kind in the UK, providing an important boost to the regional tourist economy.
BlueFish Regeneration Limited was tasked with developing an holistic package of projects linked to 12 sites across Wells-next-the-Sea in North Norfolk for the North Norfolk Community Partnership. Working closely with a steering group comprising a range of local stakeholders, BlueFish developed a master plan for the town. This focused on projects that would make the most of the town’s assets and heritage, and prioritised them for delivery over the short and medium term. BlueFish’s comprehensive report, entitled “Wells for the Future”, has been adopted by the local authority and is being taken to implementation stage.
BlueFish Regeneration Limited has worked on a range of urban regeneration projects, including the Phoenix Centre, a Victorian school complex in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, which re-opened in November 2009 following the first stage of redevelopment. Led by the local community working closely with BlueFish who managed the project, the building has been given a new lease of life and will incorporate a range of community and enterprise uses. The next phase, involving a complete renovation of the building, is set to take place in 2010.
On a larger scale, BlueFish has carried out a community mapping exercise in a major English city focusing on redeveloping large areas of deprivation into a multi-million pound social housing project.
